May 18 Update

Mabel is part of the welcoming committee at her foster home now!

Mabel is making so much progress! This sweet girl, who was completely shut down with fear when she arrived, now wiggles her whole body with happiness and excitement when she sees her amazing foster mom! She is now playing with toys too! She would not move one step on a leash when she arrived, now she goes for walks like a champ and actually gets excited when she sees her harness!

Mabel loves the sunshine, baths (!!) and belly rubs! She is cat-friendly! She is a velcro dog and follows foster mom EVERYWHERE! She was afraid to go potty in front of people and so far will not relieve herself outside. Mabel is also easily startled and doesn’t like sudden or loud noises.

She just needs time to feel safe and loved and we have no doubt she will be a wonderful companion to someone!

Mabel is almost 10 months old. We suspect she has a little pug in her and the vet agrees. She likely comes from a puppy mill/ backyard breeder.

Needless to say she arrived not potty trained or leash trained or anything trained! Our kind and patient foster is going to work on those things.

Mabel needs her nares and palate done which we will have done at the same time as her spay on June 27th!

April 20, 2023 update

I’m not going to lie, the last couple of years, and especially the last few months, have been extremely difficult in rescue. It feels like we are turning away more dogs than we can accept because we just don’t have the resources. To the point where I sometimes ask myself, what’s the point? Maybe I should just stop all together. Then we get a dog like Mabel, who just a few days ago was completely shut down and paralyzed with fear. Who now wiggles her whole body with happiness and excitement to see her amazing foster mom! It’s these moments that remind me why we must keep going….
What we know so far about this sweet girl is she loves the sunshine, baths (!!) and belly rubs! She is cat-friendly! She is a velcro dog and follows foster mom EVERYWHERE! She is afraid to go potty in front of people and so far will not relieve herself outside. Mabel is also easily startled and doesn’t like sudden or loud noises.

Mabel is said to be 8 months old, we think she may be older. She likely comes from a puppy mill/ backyard breeder.
Needless to say she is not potty trained or leash trained or anything trained! Our kind and patient foster is going to work on those things and of course she needs vetting and a spay! She has her wellness exam scheduled for the end of April.

Please say hello to sweet Mabel!

This terrified little girl is said to be 8 months old, we think she may be older. She likely comes from a puppy mill/ backyard breeder. Completely shut down with fear. That is common of mill dogs who are never exposed to the world, as are her splayed toes, which are common in dogs who have spent a lot of time in wire crates. We are thankful for the kind person who got her out of that situation and reached out to us to make sure she gets all the love and care she deserves!

We think little Mabel is probably a Frenchie mix, maybe some corgi or terrier in her.

Needless to say she is not potty trained or leash trained or anything trained! Our kind and patient foster is going to work on those things and of course she needs vetting and a spay!
